  • 500g of strong white flour
  • 50g of caster sugar
  • 1/2 teaspoon of salt
  • 1 teaspoon of fast-action dried yeast
  • 3 medium eggs
  • 125ml of warm milk
  • 125g of unsalted butter, softened
  • 100g of dark chocolate chips
  • Zest of 1 orange
  • Icing sugar, to dust


  1. Firstly, in a large mixing bowl, combine the flour, sugar, salt, and yeast.
  2. Make a well in the center and add the eggs and warm milk.
  3. Then, mix together with a wooden spoon or spatula until it forms a dough.
  4. Knead the dough on a floured surface for around 10 minutes until it becomes smooth and elastic.
  5. Then, add the softened butter and knead for a further 5 minutes until the butter is fully incorporated into the dough.
  6. Add the chocolate chips and orange zest and knead until they are evenly distributed.
  7. Place the dough in a clean, oiled bowl and cover it with a damp tea towel.
